The 25 finalists of the White House | Black Market photo shoot prepare for superstardom

This entry was written by LBBC’s Marketing and Communications Assistant, Stacia Weaver:

This Wednesday and Thursday a total of 25 women who have been affected by breast cancer will be able to tell their story. But they won’t be writing it or speaking it for that matter. Each woman will strike a pose for the 2010 White House | Black Market October Breast Cancer Awareness Catalog. Each pose, each smile, and each woman will be a reflection of the countless women who have come to face with breast cancer.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, White House | Black Market reached out to LBBC, taking advantage of the partnership that the two have with each other. White House | Black Market is a generous corporate sponsor of LBBC and we are proud to have been able to provide them with 25 inspirational women who will be a reflection of our organization. Over 100 women applied for this opportunity which included a chance to receive an expense paid trip to New York City, a professional fashion shoot complete with hair, make-up, wardrobe, and a White House | Black Market gift card!

This was one of the most competitive opportunities that LBBC has extended to our constituents and we are truly grateful and touched by the outpour of support and most of all, the impact of all of your stories. Although each story was different, each diagnosis may have been at a different stage, and the recovery from treatment was different from one submission to the next, you all are LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER and HAPPILY, might I add!

Jo Ann Cottman was selected to be featured in a photo shoot for the White House / Black Market October Breast Cancer Awareness Month Catalog.

Don’t forget to check out The Early Show on CBS on Thursday, July 1. The weather anchor, Dave Price, will lead a few of the contestants in a talk-back segment while they share their stories to the audience. This will be a live recording! Check your local listings for show times in your area.

  1. I am also a breast cancer survivor but I am looking for more suvivors that have the more rare breast cancer. Triple negative. There is not that much information about this type of cancer and I would love to hear from other survivors. I had a veryhard time going through the treatment. My body just did not want to join in this fght. I have had many problems since my treatment and although I am cancer free at this time I still fight everyday with problems from my treatment. If there are more women out there that are still having problems after receiving treatment please let me hear from you. They say don’t let it take your life but when you have so many side effects it changes you forever. If effects your family, friends, job, and everything around you. I am not the same person I used to be and I never will. This is very hard for many of us to understand. And if we can’t understand this, how do we expect everyone around us to. I will continue to
“keep on walking in hell” like they have suggested but would love to hear from others. All you ever see and hear about are the ones that came through the treatment and reconstruction, you don’t hear about the women like me. So if you are out there … please let me hear from you too!

  2. Hi Diane,

I’m not sure if you are familiar or not, but LBBC does provide peer support through our LBBC Survivors’ Helpline at 1-888-753-LBBC (5222). Our Helpline can match you with a volunteer who has also been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and who can provide you with peer support to talk through some of your more unique concerns and experiences.

Or, if you are interested more to connect online, then I would suggest checking out LBBC’s interactive message boards at http://www.lbbc.org/forum/default.asp where you can post a message and start a dialogue with other women who may share similar feelings and experiences to your own.

We appreciate your psoting here and to reaching out to LBBC. We hope you will take advantage of as many of our services as you need.

    LBBC

  3. Hi Diane

I was one of the 25 finalsits selected to participate in the photo shoot and ad campaign for White House Black Market. I am not triple neg, but I am metastatic stage IV and currently undegoing treatment. Unfortunately for some of us; we will have to battle the pink beast constantly. Please do not feel like you are alone, through LBBC you can find others triple neg patients that share your experience. There is a bond between sister survivors and through LBBC you can find the support you need. You must remain strong and positive, always keep in mind that you have survived, you may not be the same person after BC than you were before BC. I certainly am not; but in addition to the physical changes, and side effects, I’ve also found a strength, and appreciation for life that I didn’t have before. Live everyday, love everyday, accept yourself and be free. Please reach out to LBBC and you truly will find the support you need. There are others out there who will communicare their experiences with triple neg. Be well, God bless.
